(A) All street light fixtures installed due to construction or relocation within the city shall be a standard overhead fixture, such as a “Cobra-head” type of design, except in those areas where it is determined by the City Council upon recommendation of the City Manager that specialty lighting would substantially enhance a unique characteristic of a specific area. If specialty lighting is planned in a planned development, subdivision, major land partition or other like activity where public streets would be created, the Planning Commission shall make the determination, upon recommendation of the City Manager.

(B) The light shall be a sharp cut-off type, as defined by the Illuminating Engineers Society, with a flat lens, maximum lamp size of 200 watts, and be a high-pressure sodium light. In residential areas, street lights with a maximum lamp size of 100 watts will be utilized unless that specific location warrants a higher wattage light (major intersections, sharp curve and the like).

(C) A lighting fixture shall be located so as to not impede pedestrian or vehicular travel.

(D) The street light shall be so oriented and otherwise shielded that it does not shine directly into an abutting property.

(E) The street light shall direct light downward with the bulb not visible above the fixture head. (Ord. 2002-05, passed 11/18/2002)
